Leaving the Rio Grande Valley

Sunday morning came quickly as we arose at 5 am. Neither of us had slept very well as we were both keyed up about getting back on the road again. Also, we have a lot of mixed feelings about leaving. We are anxious to get home to our families but we also are sad to leave our friends and of course the beautiful hot weather.  We got ourselves all ready and as it was still too dark to unhook things and then hook the car up we had to wait for the  morning light.  George came over to help out and Lonnie came over to say goodbye. Jim and Judy appeared and it was so nice to see them. They have been such great neighbours and we have had so many laughs at all Jim's stories. Then Sharon came to say one last goodbye. I was so glad  she did. I needed one more hug from her. I was tempted to go and  drag Janie out of bed just to give her one last good- bye hug also.  The guys pitched in and helped with the final details and then everything was done and it was time to go. As excited as we were to get back on the road, it was still hard to leave.

We drove out of the Park at  8:30am and headed north  taking the 493 to 186 and then up the 77.  It was a beautiful day. Hot and sunny. A perfect Rio Grande Valley day.

After we left the Valley, we drove through  some areas where  there were Palm trees planted along the highway. There were more trees and shrubbery as we drove farther north.

We passed through a Border Patrol Check Stop but went through it with no problems. There were a lot of armed guards there.
After a couple hours we took a short break at a rest stop. The rest stops in Texas are very showy. The trees to the right are a type of oak tree. I had never seen so many branches on a tree going so many different directions.

As we drove farther north we got into ranch country and we actually got to see some cattle.  There seem to be very few Texas Longhorns though.

We crossed the Guadalupe River around  2 pm and saw a lovely spot down  along the river.

Perfect Spot
We turned off the highway and followed the little road down to the river.

There were no signs saying we could not park there so we decided it would be a perfect place to stay.

We were done for the day. I wondered around and took some pictures.

A few people  came to try their luck at fishing but by evening they were all gone and we had the place all to ourselves.

We had a very relaxing afternoon and  retired early so we could get an early start the next day.

Keep warm.
